The Hook And Sling Presents An Exclusive Interview With Keb Darge

A good friend of mine, Dj El Guiri, one part of The Better Days Soul Syndicate also happens to be a music journalist. Recently he had the privilege of interviewing the legendary Keb Darge, a name that most will be more than familiar with in the small world of soul and funk record collecting. When he offered me the chance to rip and edit the audio of the resulting 4 hour interview into an Mp3, I jumped at the chance. I felt this would be something many of you would be hugely interested in.

For those not in the know, Keb runs ‘Legendary Deep Funk’ at Madame Jo Jo’s in London’s Soho, a night which has been running WEEKLY for over 10 years and is now some what of a London institution, and also ‘Lost and Found’ with Dj Andy Smith of Portishead fame (see Dj Prestige’s Ease Back Mix).

Keb Darge is one part of Kay-Dee Records with Masters At Work’s Kenny Dope, this is a fantastic label that puts out some excellent rare soul and funk releases and edits, some of which have been featured in the mixes within these very pages.

He has also recently compiled and released a new compilation album of cuts from the P&P stable, I have the advance promo for the comp and it’s excellent and comes highly recommended !!

This audio interview is to my knowledge the only other audio interview available since he did The Duck Tape Interview a few years back. So here we go with Part 1. The rest will follow shortly.
